Principal’s Message – The Leopold Way

Welcome to Leopold Primary

Our vision: At Leopold Primary School, learning to know, learning to do, learning to be and learning to live together, equips our students with knowledge, skills and the disposition to actively embrace learning, leading all to become confident contributing member of both our school and the wider community.

Our mission is to create an educational space where our students can academically, socially and emotionally ‘SHINE’.

Our values:

  • Respect
  • Kindness
  • Responsibility
  • Honesty

Our commitment to our students’ well-being is the driving force behind everything we do. Parents want our school to bring out the very best in their children and to help them reach their full potential. All within Leopold Primary School – administrators, teachers, educational support workers and volunteers, share that same firm commitment.

Our school is strengthened by:

DIVERSITY: We celebrate and welcome students with personal dimensions that could include, but are not limited to, ancestry, culture, ethnicity, gender, language, physical and intellectual ability, race, religion, and socio-economic status.

EQUITY: We create and implement policies and processes that are fair and inclusive. Equity does not mean treating all individuals or groups the same without regard for individual differences.

INCLUSIVE EDUCATION: Education at our school is based on the principles of acceptance and inclusion of all students. Students see themselves reflected in their curriculum, their physical surroundings and the broader environment.

Learning at our school is linked to the whole child:

  • Learning to know – There is a body of knowledge to attain. This creates numerate, literate, and culturally aware citizens. We aim to generate a thirst for learning.
  • Learning to do – At our school this means that our students are given many opportunities to put their learning into practice. Student knowledge is connected to the real world.
  • Learning to be – For our students to know themselves as learners and recognise their own strengths and areas for development, is pivotal to all learning. (self-efficacy)
  • Learning to live together – At our school we build, stretch and test the development of teamwork skills and attitudes in work, rest and play. (collective efficacy)

Whole school themes and mantras are used to define and enhance our learning culture.

Students and teachers have shared understandings under the following phrases:

  • Learning in action ( Being a wet Frog) – Taking what I know and using it.
  • You have nailed it! What’s next? – Learning goals for Maths , English and Social Development.
  • Learning is a continuum – I am always learning.
  • Reward for effort – I get out, what I put in.
  • Think – Feel the stretch – Thinking about my thinking.
  • Make a stand, lend a hand, I can make a difference – Bully stoppers.
  • You Can Do It (Social skills) Persistence, Organisation, Getting along, Confidence and Resilience
